Do you want to start with the easiest foreign language to study? Which language should you study first? If you are seeking a good language to start with, I would suggest the following:

Consider starting with a foreign language that is similar to your own.
The easiest foreign language to learn is probably closely related to your own. Most languages fall into certain groups. It is relatively easy to study a language similar to your own, or similar to another language that you already have some experience with. For example, French and Spanish are closely related to English. You will probably find it easy to deduce the meanings of many words on your own. If you already know some French or Spanish, then you shouldn’t have much trouble with a language similar to Italian. Learn the basics of one, then switch to any of the others, you will find remarkable similarities.

Even if the words are very different, the grammar patterns are often the same. At some level, you will have an intuitive sense of how things go together. This makes it much easier to learn a closely related language rather than one from a unrelated lineage such as Korean or Russian.

Can You Find Lots of Resouces?
Can you find lots of resources in your chosen language? This is a critical factor in choosing a language. The easiest language to learn also has a lot of resources available. If you go to the library, can you find language guides, dictionaries, and phrase books in your target language? If you search on-line, can you find websites, podcasts, and other material in the language? If you search around, can you find movies dubbed in the language? Finally, can you find native speakers to practice with? There are all important factors to consider. The easiest foreign language to learn will be one where you have access to native speakers and a good selection of resources.

Are You Interested In The Language?
Finally, do you have an interest in learning the language? For instance, why would you want to spend a huge amount of time studying Russian if you have no interest in the food or culture of that part of the world? But if you are enthralled by the sound of Italian, dream of eating at a piazza cafe, hope to one day explore Tuscany, and are fascinated by the people, then choosing Italian is probably a no-brainer. The easiest foreign language is one that you really want to learn.

Having strong reasons on many different levels to learn a language is a key factor to your success. It will help keep you interested, keep things fun, and keep you going through the ups and downs. Language learning is a skill. You have to work at it. Like anything else, you have to develop strength in it. The experience of learning one language will in turn make it easier to learn the next language. Start with an easy language and build up from there.

Jim Rogers is a investing master in America. When he made a speech in Singapore, he told to the 200 audience including investors, fund managers and scholars that his best investing suggestion is to let their children learn Chinese because that is the most important language courses in their lives. He also stressed that his two-year old daughter is currently learning Chinese.

He has ever said to the media, “I have told to the American people, ‘the best investment they can do today is to guide their children learn everything about China.’”

It is urgent to learn Chinese.

This suggestion is much familiar to the people in investing circle. Rogers has never changed it for the past four years.

In May,2004, when he gave a speech in China, he said sincerely, “21st century is Chinese century, so you have no time to delay for learning Chinese.”

It was reported by United Morning Post in Singapore, “The current trend has proved: the economic strength of China is continuously growing and the fever of learning Chinese worldwide is just starting. More important thing is that the Chinese fever is continuously heating up.”

The South Korean students love to study in China rather than in American.

After China transcends US and becomes the first trading partner of South Korea, many South Korea students give up studying in US, and they turn to study in China.

Currently, the number of South Korea student accounts for 40% of total foreign students in China and it is estimated that this proportion will continuously increase.

It is recently reported that the number of the people who learn Chinese in America are gradually increasing. An investigation by American College Entrance exam commission shows that there are 2,400 middle schools preparing to open regular Chinese courses from next year.

More high school students will learn Chinese in future.

American Asian association has made a goal. It will let at least 15% high school students learn Chinese in next ten years.

An expert of Washington think tank economic development commission says, “If American schools neglect the importance of Chinese and Chinese culture, then they has disconnected with global reality. That is to say, everyone can not neglect the Chinese-learning fever that is heating up around the world.”

When researching about language learning, you’ll inevitably hear some folks refer to the language you want to study as “simple”. They’ll say things like, “Oh, that’s a simple language compared to Mandarin, you’ll pick it up in a month.” But, as anyone who studied a second language knows, you don’t pick up an entire vernacular in a month.

English, for instance, is a very “simple” language. The English alphabet only has 26 letters – certainly much less than that of many other international dialects. Yet, is it really that easy to learn compared to other languages?

According to many language experts, the difficulty of learning a particular vernacular will depend more on its relationship with your native language as opposed to any other innate challenge. If it features sentence structures and grammar constructs that resemble your native tongue, it will undoubtedly be much easier to familiarize with.

Even though you’re studying what is supposed to be a “simple” language, never expect to cruise through it. You’ll still have to go through the same learning phases – mastering the vocabulary, picking up syntax and working through nuances. Chances are, you’ll have just a difficult a time with spoken Korean as you do with spoken French, regardless of which language learning software you use.

Simply put, don’t let appearances fool you. While a language may seem simple, it doesn’t change the fact that you’ll have to work through every facet of it to integrate it into your skillset. Simple is not always easy.

There are a thousand techniques for studying a new language. Remember how many strategies people came up for their studying back in high school and college? Almost every single one of those can be applied to language learning, with potentially similar results.

Personally, I encourage students to develop study techniques based on their personal strengths. Even the best techniques can get you mediocre results if it’s not a good fit with the way you naturally learn. The following items are some things you can do to ensure a better experience of learning a new language, whether you’re working on the skillset using an audio course or a language software.

1. Acquire an ear. Even before starting your lessons, try to listen to songs or watch videos in your target language, without attempting to decipher or speak it. That will help you develop a familiarity with hearing it – an invaluable tool as you progress towards your overall skill development.

2. Think phrases. The best way to learn a language is to work on phrases, instead of individual words. That’s the reason why early language practice usually involves common phrases, instead of single-word lessons. Phrases give the words context as well as start you on the path to adopting the nuances of grammar.

3. Imagine stories around words and phrases you learn. As humans, we learn better when there’s an emotional component to anything we try to master. Stories crafted around your target language can make learning all that much easier – not to mention more fun.

4. Involve your life. If you can find a way to involve the target language into your life, the faster the learning will be. If you are living in a foreign country where the target language is the local vernacular, this becomes a default part of your everyday studying. Under different circumstances, though, you’ll have to be creative and find out how you’ll best be able to integrate it into your daily activities.

Having studied langugages for nearly 20 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t. Here are 5 common myths:

Myth 1: It’s impossible to learn a language fast.

Not true at all. I know many people in adulthood who have picked up a language in amazingly fast time. And no, they don’t all have IQs of 180! In fact, most just have a valid reason, such as work advancement. You just need the right motivation, and you too can learn fast.

For many language learners we have worked with, fluency implies an ease and fluidity of expression in the target language. And you would probably need to add to the mix ease in understanding everything said by others in the target language. Plus everything that you read. Plus perhaps everything you write in the new language too. The list could go on. We would agree that for most mortals it’s not possible to achieve fluency of this kind in a few weeks or months.

You CAN, however, achieve ‘conversational fluency’ in a matter of weeks or months.

Myth 2: It’s much easier to learn a language as a child.

a lot has happened in the last half century, and there’s been a substantial amount of new research that pokes big holes in the ‘critical period’ idea. It has fallen out of favor with psychologists and language specialists alike, which means you can no longer use your adulthood as an excuse not to learn a language. In fact, a number of studies have demonstrated the exact opposite: that when exposure time to a new language is controlled, adults actually learn FASTER than children!

This makes perfect sense. Think about it. Adults have a couple of obvious advantages over children who are learning their first language. Adults know infinitely more about the world; they understand that there are such things as ‘rules’ and ‘conventions’ and that these rules govern the way all languages work.

So don’t let this common myth stop you, whatever your age, from pursuing a new language. There are so many reasons TO learn a language–these myths are but a few erroneous reasons not to!

Myth 3: The best way to learn a language is to go to that foreign country and immerse, immerse, immerse…

Immersion is a very fashionable word when it comes to concocting language learning catch-phrases. And for good reason. Surrounding oneself with other native speakers and being forced to communicate in the target language most if not all of the time is a powerful way to learn a second language.

But here’s the thing: you don’t need to go to Germany to immerse yourself in German, Italy to immerse yourself in Italian, Korea to immerse yourself in Korean, and so on. This belief just puts another obstacle in your path, and gives you an all-too-tidy excuse not to take your language learning seriously in the meantime.

There are several reasons that undo the foreign country immersion myth. First of all, there are plenty of ways in which you can recreate – or ’simulate’ – a productive sense of immersion in the language. That’s because you live in a digital culture where all kinds of resources from all kinds of places are available to you on your personal computer.

Secondly, it’s certainly not a BAD idea to immerse, but who has all the time and money to do this? Moving to another country takes a lot of time and resources, and requires sacrifice like very few other things: you’re giving up time from your family and friends, time from your job, giving up precious savings…

So, you ask, what IS the best way to learn?

In general, the best courses will be able to combine:

1) the power of multimedia technology;
2) a clear and up-to-date method of instruction; and
3) a sense of enjoyment and play…

The best courses will also provide you with a suggested learning path, but at the
same time be flexible enough to allow you to do things your own way. They will
be invaluable in giving you simulated conversational practice when the real thing
is not within earshot.

For my money, Rocket German, by the fantastic Rocket Languages team, is the best, fastest, and most enjoyable way to learn German. It covers beginner’s to advanced levels and costs far less than a beginner’s course (you can spend over $500 at most universities just to get the basics!), and about a 25% of the price of JUST Rosetta Stone Level 1 (about $400 just for Beginner’s German!!).

It’s a good deal, and one that any serious learner should jump on.

I hope this helps! Enjoy whatever path you take, and good luck.

Asian food is one of the most popular foods from another land served in our country. We can find Asian restaurants that are famous for fine dining, large national chains and small greasy spoon fast food style restaurants. Asia is one of the largest continents but at the same time it is one of the most diverse. The types of people that are considered Asian are: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, Philippines, and Vietnamese. With so many people from so many different countries you can see why there is such a wide variety in Asian foods. One thing for certain is that Asian people use lots of spices in their cooking.

Get Free: Asian Food Advice

First, Steaming is a very popular method of cooking in certain certain Asian countries. This is especially true among the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans. This method of cooking preserves the nutrients that are in the food before they are digested and consumed.

How to: Find World Foods

Secondly, another way to eat food that maintains all of its nutrients is to eat it raw. This is done by many Asian cultures. The Japanese are famous for eating raw fish (Sashimi). Many of the people eat vegetables and fruits raw, they just dip them in different sauces to enhance the flavor.

Third, the color of food and the way it is presented is important to Asian people. Especially popular among the Thai, Indonesian and Malay people. Chili is quite popular for its color and the heat it provides to the taste. The wonderful combination of color and texture create a wonderful dining experience.

Lastly, if you have not tried the many different types of Asian foods I insist that you experiment and try a few. You will be in for the most wonderful and fulfilling eating experience of your life.

People have been picking up sticks to beat each other since time immemorial, but the joong bong, the Korean Middle staff, is something really special in the world of martial arts. This is the most commonly taught weapon in the Korean martial art of Kuk Sul Won, though tournaments and ease of use have brought the joong bong into other arenas, like Tae Kwon Do.

I got my first look at joong bong technique a few years ago, when I was interviewing one of the advanced students at a Kuk Sool Won school in Milwaukee. She was giving me the run down on the basic kicking and striking techniques used when something caught my eye. Next to the fans and tridents, most people wouldn’t have given the homely stick a second glance, but I could tell from the wear that this was a weapon that many students had trained with.

The joong bong itself varies depending on the school and the preference of the user. Usually, it is made out of wood or rattan and measures between 2 and half to three feet long. My friend mentioned that some heavy hitters like their joong bong to be made out of metal, and after I did a few passes with it, it makes sense; in terms of practicing, the heavier the stick is, the better the workout you’ll get.

She explained that the joong bong was the middle-sized staff that many students started off with, and is one of the easier weapons to master in the realm of Korean martial arts. She herself had started with the joong bong, and though she had progressed to a mastery of several other weapons, the joong bong remained one of her favorites. As I watched, she demonstrated some of the moves associated with this ancient weapon.

The joong bong is held at one end, rather than in the center. My friend emphasized that that this is used primarily for striking and as such, the tip should be aimed at the opponent’s neck for maximum effectiveness. Slowly, she took me through the four basic striking techniques that make up her joong bong practice and then she sped it up. As I watched in awe, she became the center of a whirling storm, the slow exercises she had been demonstrating turning into a fierce burst of activity.

She grinned at me when she finished up and asked if I cared to try. I was ready to go ahead so I stepped on the mat to face her, but she laughed.

”I was thinking about pairing you with one of our newer practitioners of joong bong,” she said and pointed at a thirteen-year-old boy, who was taking his own stick through the motions. I was going to laugh too, until I noticed how fast he was moving and how hard he could bring down his stick!

Welcome back to part 2 of the secrets of English pronunciation for Koreans. Because English and Korean are very different languages, there are some sounds that create extra difficulty for Korean speakers learning English. I hope you will find that these secrets give you that extra boost to make your English more understandable.

Secret #3: You must understand the difference between short and long vowels.

A common confusion is between the long e as in sheep and the short i as in ship. To make a long ee sound, pull your lips back into a smile. Practice saying words like sheep, sleep, team, green, and street.

The lips are not pulled back as far when saying the short i sound. This is the sound in words like ship, slip, Tim, grin, and swim.

Secret #4: You must learn to hear the difference between the w, r, and l sounds.

You are probably aware that this is a challenge, as once again, your native language does not really distinguish between these sounds and English does. The w is produced by rounding your lips, turning on your voice, and releasing the sound. It comes out as ” oooh -uh” at first. The l sound is made by placing the tongue behind the front teeth and turning on the voice. The r is made by producing the l sound, then pulling the tongue a little farther back in the mouth, keeping the tip up but no longer touching.

These four secrets are some of the biggest reasons that Korean speakers struggle with their English pronunciation. Now that you know the secrets, you should practice the sounds until you can hear and say the different English pronunciations.

If you cannot hear the differences on your own, or you want individual help to practice, contact an accent reduction specialist. You may be able to find one locally or you may prefer to find someone who offers services via webcam. That way, you can study with a native speaker who lives anywhere in the world and you can schedule classes at your convenience in the privacy of your own home or office.

If you aren’t sure if you need individual classes, find someone who offers a free accent screening and get an expert opinion.

Now you know the secrets; its time to put them into use.
